About THE sCHOOL





Sri Kalidevi Secondary school is a higher secondary school established in 2035 B.S. and has a total of 251 students in 2021. The school is 2-hour drive from Kathmandu valley, about 45 minutes from the famous Dakshinkali temple. The school is publicly owned and has ten classrooms. Electricity is available 24 hours a day. The school building new since it was recently built through technical assistance from JICA - a nonprofit organization based in Japan. It has well-constructed, rugged furniture in all classrooms including in the computer lab. The school doesn’t yet have any computers to teach the students.



Project Partner





Rotary Club of Kathmandu West (RCKW) is a social, non-political, nonprofit charitable organization in Nepal working under the aegis of Rotary International. It is one of the most active Rotary Clubs in the RI District 3292. It was very instrumental in designing and providing low cost temporary housing made of tin sheets to the families devastated by the 2015 earthquake. The club was quick to establish earthquake relief distribution center in Bhaktapur immediately after the earthquake. It partnered with international Rotary Club to accomplish water purification project in Siddhipur school. This is the fifth school RCKW is partnering with eBlackboard to establish the computer lab.



The implementation





A member of the RCKW, Rtn. Babu Raja, assisted in finding the beneficiary school at a very short notice. Rtn. Rajesh Kayastha, Past President and Service Chair of the Club held meeting in his Club in November 2021 to finalize the school and agree on the Installation & Handover schedule. The implementation was expedited so the founder of eBlackboard organization Mr. Abin Pradhan, who was visiting Nepal at that time, could participate in the installation activity at the school.





A formal equipment handover ceremony was held prior to the installation activity in front of the school. The Chairman of the Indrasarowar Gaun Palika, Principal of the Shree Kalidevi school, RCKW President Rtn. Sharada Bhakta Ranjit were some of the dignitaries present in the function. Six sets of Raspberry Pi computers, 19" LCD monitors and twelve headphones were handed over to the school as Phase 1 of the project. Additional six sets will be provided in future based on the progress made by the school.





Six sets of Raspberry Pi computers loaded with ePaath - digital interactive learning software - were installed in the brand new computer lab. The software is developed locally and Math, Science, English and Nepali subject materials for grades 1 to 8 based on national curriculum. Each computer has two audio outputs allowing twelve students to learn at the same time. All computers operated in standalone mode and don't need internet connection. A short training on how to operate the computers, specially the interactive software, was provided to few teachers who also participated in the installation process. Final testing was carried out to ensure all computers were working as expected.
