SHIKSHA SADAN SECONDARY school

Monitoring and Evaluation

eBlackboard uses Google Sheets to monitor the progress each student is making while learning through the EPaath modules and uses the results of the exercise as a means to evaluate the performance. The links to the monitoring and evaluation sheets for each grade are given below. These sheets are updated by the teachers at the end of every quarter. (implemented 2018)

About the school

Shiksha Sadan Secondary School is a public school established on 2018 BS and is located at Banepa-8, Kavrepalanchok district. The school facility has 15 classrooms and provides education to 360 students. It has a passing rate of 68% on its SLC exam in 2071 BS. The Principal was Mr. Pukar Karanjit when this project was implemented. The school's administration is dedicated to providing better education to its students through fund collection and technical support from various external sources.

Project partner

The implementation partner for this initiative is Rotary Club of Kathmandu West, which was led by President Rtn. Rajesh Kayestha. This is their flagship project in the education sector and its board is commited to implement the project in two schools every year. eBlackboard is also committed to work very closely with the Rotary Club throughout the lifecycle of the project to ensure a successful outcome. One of the key attributes of this project is Performance Evaluation through quarterly assessment. This would help to benchmark and measure the impact of introducing interactive learning methodology through the use of latest computer technology.

the implementation

At present the school teaches computer lessons to three of its classes, i.e. classes 6-8, to a total of 118 students. They have a full-time computer teacher and they have a number of desktop computers to teach the computer course to the students. The computer course are based on the national curriculum, like in most public schools of Nepal. These desktop computers are hardly enough to teach the large number of students, hence the addition of six more terminals through this initiative is going to benefit the students immensely.

The six set of computer systems based on the latest 'System on a chip (SoC)' technology including 19" HP monitors were donated to the school principal amidst a special 'Handover Ceremony' presided by the Mayor of Banepa Municipality.

Six sets of monitors, keyboards, mouse, and speakers, each powered by a Raspberry Pi 3 (SoC technology) were installed in a room provided by the school during the handover ceremony. Each Raspberry Pi 3 was loaded with a microSD card with 'E-Paath' in it. This is an interactive digital content locally developed by OLE Nepal. The content is based on the national curriculum so the students could complement their English, Math, Nepali and Science classes taught in traditional style with a more advanced interactive learning methodology. The learning modules and assessments are available in both English and Nepali languages.

A short training was provided to some of the key school staff on the operation and maintenance of the computer systems, post handover ceremony. The trainer showed how to the activate the e-learning dashboard such that the students can select the appropriate grade and subject to start digital interactive lessons. Additional assistance will be provided to develop an annual learning schedule to teach all students Math, Science and English from grades 2-8.

The implementation was a success.
