Shree Bajrabarahi secondary school

About THE sCHOOL

Shree Bajrabarahi Secondary school is a secondary school established in 2011 B.S. and has a total of 550 students in 2021. The school is community owned and has eighteen classrooms. Electricity and Internet connection is available in the school. The school also had desktop computer provided by the government of Nepal. These desktop computers did not work when there was interruptions in electricity.

Project Partner

Rotary Club of Kathmandu West (RCKW) is a social, non-political, nonprofit charitable organization in Nepal working under the aegis of Rotary International. It is one of the most active Rotary Clubs in the RI District 3292. It was very instrumental in designing and providing low cost temporary housing made of tin sheets to the families devastated by the 2015 earthquake. The club was quick to establish earthquake relief distribution center in Bhaktapur immediately after the earthquake. It partnered with international Rotary Club to accomplish water purification project in Siddhipur school. This is the fifth school RCKW is partnering with eBlackboard to establish the computer lab.

The implementation

Aryashree Pradhan from eBlackboard procured and setup ten Chromebooks to be donated to the school, of which four were sponsored by Anish and Annika (Ashish Bhadra's children). Rajesh Kayastha of RCKW coordinated the planning and implementation of the project with the help of their Satellite club stationed in Tistung. A number of key Rotary officials joined in the implementation and handover ceremony. The headmaster and science teacher of the school actively participated in the installation process. The installation process involved configuring the Internet and security features.

A handover ceremony was organized by the school prior to the installation. The Chromebooks were officially handed over to the headmaster of the school during this ceremony. The Chairman of Tistung-Palung VDC especially came to participate in the ceremony to show his support for the project. The VDC Chairman, school Headmaster, key officials of the Rotary Club, and the President of the Satellite Rotary Club spoke about the benefits of this project and thanked eBlackboard for its support.

A great benefit of the Raspberry Pi is it works without internet access. The drawback is it only works when electricity is available. With Wi-Fi becoming more common, it allows us to explore online educational opportunities. Chromebooks are designed to be used online. While Raspberry Pi require significant effort to connect various components to install the system, Chromebooks do no require installation. However, for Chromebooks it is important to configure the Internet and security. Chromebooks can run for several hours when there is no electricity. This is very beneficial for places where electricity service is not reliable. Now that they have access to the internet, they are no longer restricted to the software we preinstall. There are many popular online websites compiled by eBlackboard that the students can readily access to enchance their learning.

the implementation was a success
